Steven ‘Funkineven’ Julien has always had a masterful grip on his boogie, funk and electro influences, hitting the sweet spot between sentimental sonics hitting in the pleasure zone and an upstart, modernist edge to keep you guessing. On his new single, he puts Funkineven to one side and goes in deeper on the nostalgic dose with a sophisticated new jack swing groove, the most luxurious e-piano chords and some bumping Lately-style bass. The production is on point, and who better than the mighty Fatima to voice such a sultry jam. Eglo’s first lady has exactly the tone to capture the vibe of the track, and she also takes centre stage on this charmingly DIY new video for ‘Wraap’t’ directed by Mighty Baron III.

The full EP has now dropped, with a Club mix and a reversion from AceMo alongside extra track ‘LIL’BIT’. But our money’s on the full-fat single – pure honey in the ears, with a sweet n’ sticky green screen visual to match.
